2-ethylhexanol is an organic solvent miscible in almost all organic solvents and practically insoluble in water. Its main application is in the production of plasticizers, especially dioctyl phthalate. It is also used in the production of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, surfactants and herbicides, and as a defoamer, dispersing and wetting agent in pigment grinding.
